August/September 2024 Senior of the Month

Congratulations to Edie Silker for being announced as August/September 2024 Senior of the Month.

Edie Silker has consistently demonstrated excellence throughout her time as a student at Schaumburg High School. A uniquely driven and energetic scholar, Edie has challenged herself with advanced coursework across multiple departments, always striving to master complex concepts and engage deeply with the material. Edie is recognized by her peers and staff alike for her insightful contributions to class and her ability to think critically. She is also incredibly encouraging and collaborative, helping foster a positive learning atmosphere with her peers throughout the building.

Edie’s commitment to education is evident not only in her academic success but also her extensive extracurricular involvement. Edie regularly volunteers with the Japanese programs at Dooley Elementary School and Addams Junior High School, giving back to programs that she was once a part of and helping mentor the next generation of dual language learners. She has also taught English classes and translated for US military families at the All Education Academy, a non-profit English school based in Japan. Edie served as founder of the SHS Japanese Club last year and is an active member on the Student Equity Committee, Variety Show, and National Honor Society.

In addition to her other academic achievements, some of Edie’s greatest accomplishments in high school have come within her musical involvement. A four-year member of the SHS Symphony Orchestra, Edie has excelled due to an unrelenting work ethic and passion for music across multiple instruments. Edie has played viola in the District 211 Honors Orchestra and Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra throughout high school, and has been selected for the ILMEA District 7 Orchestra on both violin and viola for the past two years. As a junior, Edie won the SHS Concerto Competition and was selected for the ILMEA All-State Honors Orchestra on viola, recognizing her as one of the top musicians in the state of Illinois. As a senior, Edie serves in several leadership roles in the music department, including as President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and as a class intern for the Concert Orchestra. Two years ago, Edie also began to learn the French horn to get involved in the SHS Marching Band and continue her growth as musician. Through consistent dedication and practice, Edie has excelled on the instrument, now playing French horn in the SHS Wind Symphony and serving as a section leader for the Saxon Marching Band. Reflecting on her time as an SHS musician, Edie reflects, “I've made so many amazing friends and memories, as well as a lot of great music. I'm extremely appreciative of the welcoming music department here at SHS and becoming a more involved member of that community is one of the best decisions I've ever made.”

Edie’s blend of academic excellence and positivity, combined with her strong work ethic and leadership, truly sets her apart as a student leader at Schaumburg High School. Upon graduation, Edie plans to major in viola performance with a minor in Japanese. We look forward to following Edie’s continued success in the years to come.
