Our History
Origins & Opening (1970s)
Schaumburg High School opened in 1970 as part of Township High School District 211. At the time, the northwest suburbs were expanding fast, and the district needed a second high school to handle the surge of families moving into the area. SHS was designed with a strong academic focus, big extracurricular ambitions, and a community-centered identity.
Growing into Its Role
Through the late ’70s and ’80s, the school developed the programs that became its backbone — business education, performing arts, vocational/technical offerings, and competitive athletics. Population growth meant steady upgrades and expansions to keep the building modern and efficient.
A Reputation for Excellence (1990s–2000s)
By the ’90s, SHS had solidified its reputation for strong academics and standout activities. The Saxons were consistently competitive in athletics, band, choir, and academic competitions. The school also became known for its supportive climate and high college-readiness rates.
Modernization Era (2010s–Present)
In the past decade, the building has seen major tech and infrastructure improvements: remodeled labs, upgraded athletic facilities, 1:1 technology initiatives, and enhanced security. Program offerings expanded as well — more AP courses, career pathways, and digital/media opportunities.
Today
Schaumburg High School stands as one of the flagship schools of District 211, serving a diverse community with strong traditions, a competitive spirit, and a focus on preparing students for college, careers, and life. The Saxon identity and community pride remain central to its culture.
