October Senior of the Month – Brandon Jaimes

Schaumburg High School is proud to announce Brandon Jaimes as the October 2017 Senior of the Month. Brandon is a dynamic and passionate leader at SHS, as demonstrated by his extraordinary performance across academics, activities, and athletics. Throughout his high school career, Brandon has taken accelerated and Advanced Placement coursework in nearly every department. He possesses an intrinsic and voracious love for learning, finding personal interest in various subjects and relentlessly pursuing new knowledge. Brandon’s curiosity makes him an exemplary leader in the classroom, as he asks thoughtful questions and explores every aspect of the content. Brandon is also incredibly encouraging and collaborative, helping foster a positive learning atmosphere with his peers throughout the building.

Outside of the classroom, Brandon has been highly involved and successful throughout his time at SHS. He has competed on the Cross Country, Swimming, and Water Polo teams, including two years on the varsity level in Swimming. Brandon has also been a member of the Math Team, Student Ambassadors, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Principal’s Advisory Board. He was recently selected for the National Hispanic Recognition Program and the 2017 Rose Arbor Court.

Although extremely successful in several areas, some of Brandon’s greatest accomplishments in high school come from his co-curricular involvement in music. A four-year member of the Schaumburg Band program, Brandon has excelled due to an insatiable work ethic and passion for music. Brandon has been a three-year member of the SHS Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Sextet, earning “Superior” recognitions at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Festival for every event he has performed and numerous “Outstanding Musician” awards at area jazz festivals. Since his sophomore year, Brandon has been a trombone section leader for the Saxon Marching Band, member of the Band Leadership Board, and a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. This year, Brandon was elected President of the Band Leadership Board and also serves as an intern for the freshman band.

Brandon has received high accolades for his involvement in music beyond SHS. He has been a member of the ILMEA District 7 Band/Orchestra and Jazz Band since his sophomore year, placing him among the top student musicians in the north and northwest suburbs. As a junior, Brandon was selected for the ILMEA All-State Honors Jazz Ensemble, a recognition reserved for the most elite musicians in the state of Illinois. Brandon reflects that this was one of the highlights of his time in high school, and he has used this experience to help other students at SHS grow as musicians. Brandon has also been a member of the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Midwest Young Artists Jazz Workshop and Merit Combo. As a junior, Brandon was selected for the Chicago Youth in Music Festival, performing at Symphony Center under Riccardo Muti, Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Brandon attributes his success at SHS to time management, setting priorities, and following his passions. He states, “it’s quite easy to remain motivated when you enjoy what you do.” Brandon’s boundless drive to learn has made him successful across many different areas. With music specifically, he explains, “since playing music brings me happiness and relaxation, I don’t need any motivation; I am rewarded for playing my instrument.” Put simply, Brandon’s success in high school is the result of his dedication and pursuit of what he enjoys most. Brandon plans to study music at the collegiate level, with a possible double major in a STEM-related field. Given his incredible accomplishments and impact at SHS over the past four years, we look forward to following his continued success in college and beyond.
