Session 2 GETTING INVOLVED AT SHS

Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologists review importance of school involvement and personal health.  Review activities and groups that are offered at SHS.

 

Session 3  CAREER CHOICES, SELF-EXPLORATION, CAREER PATHWAYS

Counselors meet with freshman to begin career exploration.

how do you learn – Tactile, Auditory, Visual?  How do you communicate?  What does this say about how you interact with others and how others perceive you?  What type of careers work best with your personality

CAREER CLUSTERS
A career cluster is a group of careers that share common features.  If you like one job in a cluster, you will probably find other jobs in that cluster that you will like as well  There are 16 nationally recognized Career Clusters.  Visit District 211’s College Majors & Career Clusters to see the District 211 courses that align with each cluster.

HOW DO CAREER CLUSTERS IMPACT HIGH SCHOOL COURSE SELECTION?
Through Career Cruising students complete a career matchmaker inventory which generates two career clusters that align with their individual interests.  Career interest is one factor that can help guide a student’s choice of elective course.  District 211 has identified related coursework for each of the 16 career clusters.

Session 4  PLANNING FOR SOPHOMORE YEAR COURSES

Students meet with their counselors in December and February for course scheduling for Sophomore year.
